Five Minutes Past Twelve Pollution in the Media

The old adage that mankind will not react to a terminal threat until five minutes to twelve, when it is up to its ears in sh.. , has long been superseded. Actually the clock will show five past twelve, when mankind finally realises it is too late even for symptomatic therapies.

• The politician will play down problems such as leaking reactor fittings and put his political career above an honest warning. "At no time was there any danger for the population".
• The population and livestock catastrophe in the Sahel zone are swept under the table by journalists as "draught" or "aridity", all of them "natural catastrophes"or acts of "God", that strike the poor natives only temporarily.
• An oil slick polluting the coastline has "dissolved".
  - claims the press. More likely, its non-degradable components are still there, now finely dispersed in the planet's interconnected oceans.
• Or disguised as good news: The population "increase has dropped" over the past months.
  -which mathematically signifies there is still a positive balance between births/immigration and deaths/emigration, only less so!
• The cloud of noxious gas over the city has "dispersed".
  -now more people can inhale it at a lower concentration! Have newsmakers really never heard of global air mass movements?
• The extensive forest fires in the south have subsided,"fortunately without loss of any human lives or homes".
  -only the forest, taking hundreds of years to recover (if allowed), and all its indigenous life is gone!
• The mercury level in the city bay has "lowered", according to the media.
  -where has the Hg gone to? Concentrated to the end of the food chain?
