Film Adventures in Nature and Science
As the name indicates we are dedicated to documentary movie making in the fields of nature and science. The objective is to contribute to the popularisation and elucidation of the wonders around us. Our society is in need of entertaining, easy to grasp introductions to areas of knowledge; introductions that should relate to conventional methods like a fascinating book relates to the backside of a tax declaration.
What's new or different in FANS films? Their foremost aim is to break with an established condition of many, including some documentary films: Namely to remove THE HUMAN BEING from the centre of action and put the ENVIRONMENT in his place. We do not want to ask about the "who", but about the "why", "where" and "when".
Human relations and problems constitute the majority of movie
making activity. With the exception of a chosen few, suspense
seems to require the situation of human life being threatened.
This may be why so much violence disgraces our screens. In
directing movies, man in his overbearing arrogance still feels
the "Crown of Creation" to which all else is secondary.
This in spite of the modern scientific view of the World that
should have taught him otherwise. In this context there is only
one theme in non-documentary films:
Man and his/her Society. Subdivisions of THE theme deal with the
effects resulting from the clashing of man and his society: War,
crime, brutality and snooping inside the private sphere of
others.
16mm FANS attempt to put the importance of humans and human concerns in true relation to their environment. Unfortunately this leaves mostly his negative influence on Nature.
